Mary Howard

Senior Occupational Therapist

Mary is a skilled Senior Occupational Therapist who has worked for the HSE for the past thirteen of years. She initially worked with adults who presented with varying needs, abilities and complex medical profiles. Following this, she spent time working in Primary Care Services, assessing and providing therapy to children from 0-18 years who presented with a range of developmental profiles. In 2010, she took up the role of Senior Occupational Therapist with HSE Early Intervention Services (0-6 years). In addition, she developed her own private practice, whereby she supported school age and older children in preschool, school and at home. She has extensive experience assessing and supporting young and older children who present with motor, sensory, and visual perceptual needs. In addition, she also supports those who struggle with emotional-regulation, sensory- regulation, eating, sleep, attention and concentration difficulties.

Mary has been a Senior Consultant Occupational Therapist with the Education, Psychology and Therapy (EPT) Clinic for over three years. She provides intervention for children with no diagnosis and those who have specific diagnostic profiles. She works with children who have Learning Disabilities and Difficulties (General or Specific), Autism Spectrum Conditions, Dyspraxia, DCD, ADHD, Down’s Syndrome and many others. Mary also has experience giving talks and presentations and working alongside care givers and parents – helping them help their own children.

Mary enjoys working with children and their families and employs a very child centred approach. She aims to promote optimal independence through functional daily activities. Being a mother of three children herself, she understands hectic family life and the different daily challenges that this can present. She aims to adapt therapy into family life and tailors’ interventions using evidence based practice, depending on the child’s needs
